Yancy's always been the sort of unattainable older guy that Chuck grew up unable to really be friendly with, let alone anything else. He was more of a parent to Raleigh and Jaz than a big broth, at least while they're in school, and Chuck was barely friends with them.
Sort of, yeah, and he's a little surprised Yancy's still speaking to him after the fights he and Raleigh got into once or twice.
They reconnected after Chuck got into college and moved into an apartment close to campus. He hangs out with the Beckets, sometimes collectively and sometimes individually.
And he and Yancy are close enough to text each other about personal crap (like girls who want to invite you to her uncle's funeral for the fourth date) and for Yancy to help get Chuck into bars and drink it out.

Still, the kid seems to settle when he gets older and they get a little closer, a little friendlier.
Enough so that Yancy picks him up, and takes him to a local bar and winks at the girl behind the counter, and Chuck isn't ID'd once.
"Cheers," he says sourly, holding up his beer, "to the worlds most awkward impending conversation ever."
no subject
"Cheers," he smirks, knocking his glass against Yancy's. "To cowards."
Yeah he's definitely tugging on his chain.
no subject
"Lucky I don't punch you off that barstool."
It's fine, he can take a little ribbing, whatever. He just needs a few hours to figure out what the fuck he's gonna say to this chick.
Because seriously who does this.

Chuck grins into his beer as he drinks. That's probably fair, but also probably drinking with a friend isn't going to help him come up with anything articulate.
Not that Chuck's complaining.
no subject
Seriously stop complaining, punk.
"My self-restraint then," he says with a little smirk, lifting his shoulders in a shrug. And no, drinking with Chuck isn't going to help but he'll feel a little calmer. Maybe.
no subject
He leans and knocks his shoulder against Yancy's shoulder. Calming yourself down is totally helping. Totally.
no subject
"Think I do too."
He lapses into a comfortable silence and nurses his beer, but buys Chuck another round. It's the weekend, but he's also on his bike so -- getting too hammered isn't a good idea.
Getting Chuck hammered though, that's okay.

"How'd you even manage three whole dates, anyway?" Wasn't there something early on that indicated she'd be pulling something like she is now?
no subject
"Two," he corrects, and he shrugs his shoulders. "I dunno. She seemed okay at first but then by the end of date two it was pretty easy to tell it wasn't going anywhere. For me, anyway. Then two days later - today - she texted me with that."
no subject
He'd like to thank Yancy for being an unending source of amusement tonight.
no subject
"So I've noticed." Yeah Chuck he knows about your habits just like he knows about Raleigh's he's just the type that knows everything about everyone. Big bother syndrome or something.
"I dropped her off, she tried to kiss me. I leaned back. She didn't look happy, and went inside and slammed the door. So I didn't really...get to say anything."
no subject
Chuck smirks as he takes another drink, and then pauses.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
no subject
"What part?"
no subject
He shoulders him back harder and grins crookedly.
no subject
Well, alright.
Chuck nudges him back and Yancy shakes his head, and signals that bartender for another round.
"So tell me what's going on with you. Distract me from my woes."
no subject
"Eh, not a lot." He'll drain his drink and reach for the next one when it arrives. "School."
no subject
He rolls his eyes.
"C'mon, that's a crap answer. Give me something better than that. What're you studying? How long til you graduate? You even old enough to drink yet? That kind of thing."
no subject
"I've still got like another year and a half," he half sighs. "Whatever. At least I'm not in the dorms any more."
no subject
He takes the nudge in stride, smirking over at the younger man. Throw him a bone here Chuck.
"What dorm were you in before, anyway?" He asks, tipping the beer back before signaling for another round. "Don't think you ever mentioned."
no subject
"Which you would've known if you'd ever visited me." Chuck pretends to scowl at Yancy. In reality, he doesn't expect Yancy to have had any interest in visiting a college dorm. or Chuck, at that time.
no subject
Yancy snorts - he can tell Chuck's kidding (or at least, he better be), and he rolls his eyes.
"Please. I had my fill of dorm life already."
no subject
Chuck grins lazily and wraps a hand around the new beer set in front of him.
Nevermind Chuck'd been known to be among them once or twice.
no subject
"Can't think of a lot of things that irritated me more."
Seriously, Chuck.
no subject
What?
Chuck tilts his head back to start at the new beer. "Should we be eating something in between these?"
no subject
He takes a swig.
"Yeah, sure. If you're hungry. I think they've got bar food here." Wings, burgers. Stuff like that.
no subject
And orders a plate of wings for them both.
no subject
"I think by the end of the night, if I haven't knocked you off that bar stool it'll be a miracle."
But the wings are appreciated. He is kind of hungry.
no subject
Wings are awesome.
